Give Back with BC Tech for Learning
BC Technology for Learning Society is a registered charity accepting donations of used computers (and other tech devices). Youth on work experience placements are hired to refurbish the computers for distribution back to BC-based non-profits, schools, and low-income individuals.
Looking for ways to demonstrate your social and environmental bottom line in the tech sector? We have ways to help you help others.
Ways you can support our mission:
1. Make a corporate tech donation
You can donate technology that has reached its end of life at your business. A charitable tax receipt is available for eligible donations.
BC Technology for Learning Society has strict data security policies and procedures that we follow to ensure that data on donated hard drives is properly destroyed before devices are sent to their new home. Devices should be unlocked and set to manufacture reset.
Schools, non-profits, indigenous communities and low-income families reuse the donated devices. Our programs may be the only opportunity for members of our community to be able to afford a device. Donated technology creates opportunity.
2. Host a tech drive
Collect donations of gently used laptops, computers, monitors, printers, and other tech and send them our way! Your organization can make a difference through your community. Devices collected through the tech drive should be in working condition, Windows 11 compliant, unlocked, and set to manufacture reset.
Tax receipts are not available for devices collected by the business from others.
3. Include BC Tech as a charity of choice
Are your employees looking to make a difference? Recommend BC Tech for Learning as your company’s charity of choice by offering to match all cash donations. A tax receipt is available through Canada Helps.
Our impacts across British Columbia are large, but we need your support to deliver our programs. Donations help us cover our fixed costs and keep the price of our equipment low for clients who rely on us for affordable technology.
4. Champion our story
Your words can go a long way! If you do not have technology or cash to donate at this time, help us spread the word about what we do.
We can share graphics and handouts with you to share with your professional network. Connect with Keely to learn more.
5. Volunteer or host a Lunch & Learn
BC Technology for Learning Society has multiple opportunities to get involved as a volunteer! If you have some time during the week that you are looking to fill, we have several tech-savvy volunteers come in from Monday to Friday to help with refurbishing and testing devices, and some specialized repairs. If you have technical skills to contribute, reach out to Rob!
Alternatively, if time is of the essence, lend your expertise by hosting a Lunch & Learn for our interns! You come to us, we buy the pizza! Share your knowledge with our hardware technicians about different career opportunities in I.T. Interested individuals should contact Mary-Em.
6. Sponsor an Event
BC Technology for Learning Society hosts many events throughout the year—from our annual Donor Recognition Event, to our highly successful Featured Inventory Garage Sales for clients, to various fundraisers.
Recognition through our website and social media, in-person brand exposure, speaking opportunities at events, and industry exclusivity are just some of the perks we provide through our sponsorship opportunities.
Sponsor events with BC Tech for Learning to reach new potential customers in education and non-profit spaces, and prove your company’s triple bottom line by supporting social impact initiatives. To learn more, contact Keely.
